Hips-Beware of the Fracture

Hips don't always mend properlyHips can fracture rather easily, as does the pelvis, wrist and shoulder in older adults. In case you don’t know the medical statistics, one in three (33%) of folks 65 and older will sustain a FALL. For a third of them, it will be a life changing event – meaning, they may need in home assistance or leave their home to reside in a senior home which has more services for their higher level of care needs.

According to Long term Care insurers, 7 out of 10 elderly adults will need some type of nursing home care at some point in their lives. It isn’t necessarily the fall which leaves you incapacitated, it may be complications, the anesthesia from surgery, infection or the fact that you are 75 + with other health issues. The fall itself may just be the cause of a downward spiral. Hips are a common culprit for elder adults.
